Ownership model
In a SACCO, members are the owners.
The cooperative model
Ownership is the product.
In a SACCO there are no outside shareholders. The members who save are the members who borrow, and the members who own.
- 01
Members save and buy shares
Regular savings and share capital create a pool owned by the members.
- 02
The pool finances members
Members borrow from that pool at transparent, cooperative terms.
- 03
Repayments rebuild the pool
Every repayment returns to the fund that serves the next member.
- 04
Members decide on surpluses
At the AGM, members decide how surpluses are used, including any dividend.
Our principles
Seven cooperative principles
- 01Voluntary and open membership
- 02Democratic member control: one member, one vote
- 03Member economic participation through shares and savings
- 04Autonomy and independence
- 05Education, training and information
- 06Cooperation among cooperatives
- 07Concern for community
